Independent record stores are few and far between these days, but you can still find ‘em – providing you look hard enough. 586 Records is a music lover’s dream, a bright, airy, vinyl-only record shop owned and operated by Antony Daly, a seasoned promoter, disc jockey, partier and record collector. The shop has been on the go since 2014, when Daly decided to share his vast music catalogue with the world – or the denizens of Newcastle at least. Located on Pilgrim Street, within Commercial Union House, 586 Records is just a short stroll from the city’s Central Station. The vinyl store stocks a blend of brand-new records, pre-owned gems and tickets for local gigs. It also includes several listening stations, where shoppers can sample their potential buys, as well as a high table and wall displays.
